Disturbing CM Punk altercation with a child

Posted by Jt on January 17, 2011 at 7:40 PM

It was reported here that CM Punk got into an altercation with a fan at Sunday's WWE super show event from Shreveport, Louisiana in which CM Punk was hit by an overzealous fan, presumably a teenager. However, new details have arised that paint a different picture of what happened.

Following his match, CM Punk got in the faces of several fans at ringside, including a few young children. As per normal un-aired house show events, certain language/actions are allowed and wrestlers can be a little more billigerent than they could on television. One particular fan of around 10 years old took the words seriously and was very vocal with Punk and so the wrestler zeroed in on him, challenging the boy to slap him, possibly to call his bluff.

The fan slapped Punk, recieving something of a pop from the surrounding crowd. CM Punk then challenged the boy to slap him again.  The fan complied once more. It was then that Punk allegedly grabbed the child by the shirt and challenged him to do it one more time. The boy began to cry and his parents began yelling at CM Punk. Punk was heard yelling that the child scratched his eye during the provoked attack.

In a perfect world Punk shouldn't have done that. He lost his cool. But I think the kid should be shown that there are consequences for actually hitting another person. On the playground, if he would have slapped someone without them hitting him first, he would have gotten in trouble and more than likely would have gotten a beating from the kid he hit, also.

If the kid takes it upon himself to act tough, then he can take someone (not even hitting him mind you) grabbing him by the shirt. You seem to have the mentality that because he was 10 he couldn't have seriously injured CM Punk. So, because Punk was doing his job and being the bad guy, and because his confrontation was with a 10 year old, he comes out looking like a miserable human being, but guys like Chris Jericho, who wasn't even near a ring when he punched that girl, his actions were justify by everyone. Or Randy Orton, who has had several run-ins with fans, is ok because they were teenagers and not under the age of 13.

I understand what your saying, but I don't feel a bit sorry for ANYONE (man, woman, or child) that feels they need to be a tough-guy and hit the wrestlers. As for Punk, be careful what you ask for...

Fans that old (such as Daryl) tend to know better and put themselves into that situation with the idea that wrestling is either fake or that they can earn a contract right then and there by beating the champion with a 450 Moonsault.

This was a kid who went with his parents to enjoy the show, probably was still within the range of those who buy into the realism of wrestling targeted among a crowd of jeering audience members. CM Punk placed his bet on walking up to the kid for the bully routine and bluffing that the kid wouldn't hit him. When the kid did Punk either realized he just looked weak or genuinely lost his shit and got in his face with the intent to intimidate the child, scare him, so the kid reacted as anyone would when someone is apparently intruding into your personal space in a hostile manner. This allegedly prompted Punk to reach OVER the guardrail and grab him, never saying "don't do that" or asking for security to intervene, but encouraging him to keep hitting.

So, for that, the kid and his parents deserve to be arrested but not before Punk roughs up the toddler and fracture a couple of his ribs?

I agree that he lost his shit, but it was a tad bit more than a jeer. We all saw the mark left on his eye on Raw. Punk wouldn't have touched the kid if that kid would have kept their hands to themselves. It's the same with fans running into the ring, they deserve an ass kicking if they're going to be that stupid.

That's all well and good but under no circumstances should a grown man put his hands on a child. If you can't handle the jeering of the crowd without losing your shit then maybe you shouldn't be a wrestler.

You don't touch the wrestlers, no matter how much they provoke you, unless they hit you first. That's assault, and the kid and or his parents should have been arrested. I don't care how old you are, if you can't take a little heel provocation, then you shouldn't be at ringside.
